The fishing is just starting to improve after the rather dull months of June and July. With plenty of cruising brown trout around the shallows. We have been catching them on mainly bully patterns, but small nymphs also have been accounting for some nice fish.
Nicely conditioned rainbow trout are starting to congregate around some of the rivermouths – generally with these fish, if they see the fly they will eat it. Highly popular with novice anglers!
Over the months of August and September we hope to get some calm days, as I know from past seasons it’s one of the most under rated times to fly fish in New Zealand’s Southern Lakes.
